☆ E.P.I.C. ☆

This drama has EVERYTHING going for it ... addiction is just inevitable~
Of course, I was already hooked with the passionate portrayal of young King Sejong from Song Joongki. And I thought that maybe my fangirl love would die out since he transformed into the mature Lee Do just too soon on Episode 3? or 4? Ahhh, but the gripping story is JUST too compelling. Besides, there are still some flashback and manic depressive scenes bringing back Joongki's devastatingly clean-cut grandeur~ And then ofcourse, there were some new beautiful faces to cheer on!

Kim Hyunwoo as 성삼문 is ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤!

Ahh, such a bright adorable character. He's the icon of young mischief, boldness, intelligence, and passion which basically makes him PERFECT! I would have voted him the next King if that even made sense ㅋㅋㅋ.

Seriously, why can't the entire scholar population at that time sport this clean cut look? Must everyone really grow into the mustache and beard? I mean, this is just scholarly brilliance~~~

And then, we have this unearthly beautiful Lee Soohyuk as the warrior 윤평. He has this Legolas-feel to him (and oh yeah, with arrows sometimes too) which comes off as almost alien on some scenes ...

And again can't all villain be this pretty? ㅋㅋ Wouldn't hurt, right?
His sleek action scenes add tons to his appeal though. I'm just not too sure about that DEEEEEEEP voice. Well, everyone seems to have that deep resonating voice but Pyung's was more unreal hehe ...

Well ofcourse, I shouldn't leave off Jang Hyuk who plays the most hilarious tragic character ever! His facial hair is still well-kept (comparably) so I'd say he can still qualify for my clean-cut

Kang Chaeyoon's close-ups are always welcome! He is sooo JohnnyDepp-ish here and that's certainly a good thing.

Can't complain with the choice of other characters as well. I'd say this saeguk drama has more pretty faces than Sungkyunkwan Scandal. And that is ofcourse a good starting point to consider watching it. But really, it's the elaborate mystery that draws you in ... the amazing imagery ... the tragic destinies of the characters ... and that sinking feeling that things wouldn't and can't just work out nicely for everyone ... Ahhhh, such a drama!

And then ofcourse, there's nothing like re-watching Joongki scream "Moo Hyul!!!!!!!!" You know this part, right??

So sue me, I am totally in love with Joongki's flared nostrils. I can't help it.

He sports this singular look throughout the entire first episode of 뿌리깊은나무 and I'm still floored.

Sure, this spazz is coming in toooo late despite my anticipation of Joongki's role ... Been really busy the entire October (gmarket 때문에) but I finally got around to watching this.

I think I'm instantly hooked on the drama if only because of the undoubtedly most drop-dead gorgeous king ever in a historical series! The screencaps were almost automatic. Capturing Joongki's close-ups helps me not break out into hysterical kyaaaaaaaa's in the middle of the heavy storyline...

Now, folks reading all this spazzing might not get the correct idea about this new historical drama. I do think I've seen my fair share of historical dramas from the epic Dae Jang Geum to the not so recent Dong Yi. Up front, 뿌리깊은나무 Deep-Rooted Tree is quite different because it gives a mystic sci-fi impression which is definitely not very traditional of these historical pieces. I get a CSI/Heroes-feel to it. And this is probably one of the most awkward comparisons ever but I fail at envisioning anything better as I am detached from most of the US series lately. Bottom line is, if Deep Rooted Tree aimed for a fresh first episode, I'm saying it clearly and cleanly achieved it. I am also not minding having Jang Hyuk open the drama with his devilish good looks ... but maybe more on that later.

I obviously cannot do a fair review about Joongki's acting except to say that some people might not love the flared nostrils as much as I dig it. But I still have to say that Joongki played his pathetically helpless role to perfection. You almost want to shake him senseless from his powerless scenes ... but yeah, that's just me being too involved.

Looking forward to the next episodes and more Joongki ...

꽃미남 라면가게 is just perfect!!! Just the kind of light rom-com to start watching this late autumn. Episode 1 even has the cutest title in the world ~ "누구를 위하여 좋은 울리나" "For Whom the Bell Tolls". The dialogues are just as cute too! Those which make you smile stupidly knowing how cheesy yet sincere they are ... "I still trust my heart ..."

And of course, the abundance of pretty boys makes this drama just a tad bit irresistible.

I absolutely love how this girl uses her 꽃미남 score system! And ohhhh, Jung Ilwoo is just tons adorable here!

Can't wait for more!
